Failed Specs

text from the artist:

Following the success of Mountains’ film festival run, I created some spec animations and failed beautifully shopping them around. “A spec animation, a term I steal from screenwriters (the spec script), is a non-commissioned and unsolicited animation. “Meditate,“ a 30-second fully rotoscoped animation referencing collaged footage of cats, wrestlers, and Marc Maron performances, is one of those failed specs.

Inspired by the animators’ long history of collaborating with comedians (Bill Plympton and Patton Oswalt, Mel Brooks & Carl Reiner’s 1975 animated TV special of The 2000 Year Old Man, Terry Gilliam’s stop motion animation in Monty Python’s Flying Circus) I created an unsolicited animation accompanying 30 seconds of Marc Maron’s stand up special. He did not ask for this.

include annotations and link them to things- especially what is a spec, plus animations listed above. wiki page?
